Slowly but surely, everything that exists in the print age is migrating to the digital era. This migration is all thanks to how accessible the internet is to the modern world. Now that everyone has a handy smartphone in their pocket, the internet is quite literally a fingertip away.
Resumes are becoming digitized and more customizable, traditional brick and mortar stores are now operating strictly online, and social networking is eliminating the need to write and send letters. These changes are all rather incredible, but they present a new demand for website development along with it.
Perhaps you want to develop and code your website to function as your resume, or maybe even open an online store. However, learning how to code takes time, it’s difficult, and you don’t even know where to start.
Fortunately, companies like Mobirise have delivered a state-of-the-art offline website builder that you can use to build your new website with ease.
In this article, we’re going to introduce you to Mobirise and how you can set up your very own website.
Mobirise is a free offline website builder that allows you to create stunning mobile-friendly websites. The best part is, you don’t have to know anything about coding and it’s free to use! To help build your website, Mobirise uses elements called “website blocks”.
To make this easy to understand, think of a website as if it is a bunch of Legos thrown together to create an epic Lego set. Each brick, or website block, plays an important part in creating the bigger picture. Website blocks can be images, bodies of text, blog templates, videos, store-products, search bars, and with Mobirise’s capabilities, a whole lot more.
Mobirise prides itself on being the perfect website builder for someone that is not experienced when it comes to technology. Traditional website builders will utilize interfaces that are jam-packed with confusing settings, forms, and a bunch of stuff you don’t want to be bothered with.
Mobirise recognized this flaw and so they set out to create a free website builder with a minimal, easy-to-use interface.
Alright, so for this example we’re going to utilize Mobirise to build your portfolio/online resume. To get started, simply follow this link and download Mobirise to your computer (keep in mind, Mobirise works for both Mac and Windows machines).
Now that we have Mobirise installed, we’re first going to create a new website and pick out our theme. For this tutorial, we’re going to be utilizing the “PersonaM4” theme. The reason we’re using this Bootstrap resume template is that it comes pre-equipped with website blocks that are perfect for building a personal portfolio.
To begin, simply click on the bottom right “+” button and start by adding one of the included menu blocks. On websites, menus act as taskbars, giving you access to each page found on the website.
Next, we’re going to want to add one of the header blocks. The header provides a great shift in the feel of your website by presenting the user with a beautiful image, as well as an introduction or call to action.
We are of course working from the Bootstrap resume template, so we’re going to want to change the background image to something that fits you. If you have any relevant images of yourself doing what you love then let’s go ahead and put it in the block by clicking anywhere in the block section and then going to the “block parameters” button in the top right (it’s the icon with the settings cog).
Changing the text of your header is just as easy as putting the header on your page, simply click anywhere on the text itself to change it to whatever you want. To add a call to action, simply highlight the text you want to link to another page (for example: “Read More”) and click the symbol that looks like a chain. Once clicked, a dialog box will open allowing you to insert a hyperlink to other pages found on your website or an external web address such as Google.com.
After you’re satisfied with the header, we can now start to add any of the cool feature/content blocks included within the PersonaM4 Bootstrap resume template. Click again on the add-block button and begin browsing through the sections of blocks, adding what you’d like to the page.
No matter what, each block you find within this Bootstrap resume template or on Mobirise is very self-explanatory. Pick 1-2 more website blocks to add to your page, customize them, and come back when you’re finished.
Alright, so now you have a very beautiful portfolio that will impress just about any company’s hiring agent. But wait, it’s still offline… how do we publish it to the web? Just like everything else on Mobirise, publishing your website is easy.
Simply click the “Publish” button in the top right of Mobirise and save the website to a local drive folder. For this, I recommend you create a folder on your desktop and name it “My Website”. Once it’s published, you’ll need to enlist the help of any web-hosting service.
With that, your website is finished! Simply investigate the web-hosting service you intend to use and independently figure out the most efficient steps to setting up your domain name.
The prime advantage of Mobirise is that it is simple and affordable. Other website builders such as Wix or Squarespace can charge as much as 2-300 dollars and still provide you with a confusing experience. In today’s tutorial, we made a highly functioning website by utilizing the PersonaM4 Bootstrap resume template.
If you want to unlock the full experience that Mobirise has to offer, you can opt to go premium and purchase the Website Builder Kit. This gives you access to EVERY premium theme Mobirise offers at reasonable prices. This gets you over 2,000 website blocks and 59+ premium themes to play with.
Mobirise is a free website builder, but it isn’t another piece of lame freeware. Mobirise offers users that want to create a beautiful website an experience that is unmatched.
It’s 2020, website development doesn’t have to seem like a daunting task anymore, and it’s all thanks to Mobirise.
